Application Process

What happens from assessment to visa endorsement?

Use this guide to understand pre-approval, in-person requirements and the points that often cause confusion.

Quick Summary

Assess before preparing

Confirm programme fit and identify eligibility concerns before collecting every document.

Submit a complete file

Check names, dates, translations, authentication and financial evidence before submission.

Treat pre-approval as conditional

Pre-approval lets you proceed to the remaining requirements; it is not yet visa endorsement.

Every applicant enters Malaysia

After pre-approval, the main applicant and all accompanying dependants enter Malaysia to complete the applicable formalities.

Finish before endorsement

Complete the fixed deposit, medical, insurance, property and final-document requirements that apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Long Does the Application Process Take?

For MM2H, MOTAC's current service benchmark is up to 90 working days from receipt of a complete application, subject to bank confirmation.

This is not a promise of the full start-to-finish timeline. Document collection, police clearances, translation and authentication happen before assessment; medical, insurance, fixed-deposit and endorsement steps follow pre-approval. A confirmed equivalent benchmark is not currently stated here for PVIP.

When Do I Pay During the Application Process?

At the initial stage, pay the applicable government participation or programme fee and dependant fees. The first 20% agency service-fee instalment is also paid at this stage.

For MM2H, the remaining 80% agency service fee is paid after pre-approval. For PVIP, 50% is paid after pre-approval and the final 30% after the fixed deposit. Government and programme charges remain separate from agency fees, medical checks, insurance, document work, the fixed deposit and any property commitment.

What Are the Main Application Stages?

First confirm programme fit, prepare and submit a complete file, then wait for assessment and pre-approval before completing the in-Malaysia requirements and visa endorsement.

The exact sequence varies by programme. Use the Application Planner to separate what should be prepared now from steps that should wait until pre-approval.

Does Pre-approval Mean My Visa Is Complete?

No. Pre-approval allows you to proceed to the remaining programme requirements; it is not visa endorsement.

The applicable medical, insurance, security-bond, banking, fixed-deposit, property and final-document requirements must still be completed before endorsement.

Do All Applicants Need to Enter Malaysia?

Yes. After pre-approval, the main applicant and every accompanying dependant must enter Malaysia for the applicable in-person and post-approval formalities.

Plan travel only after confirming the current instructions, appointment sequence and documents for every family member included in the application.
